Humanitarian Assistance

Humanitarian Assistance refers to the aid and action designed to save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity during and after emergencies, such as natural disasters, armed conflicts, or crises. It is typically provided on the basis of need, without discrimination, and guided by key humanitarian principles — humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. Humanitarian assistance can include providing food, water, shelter, medical care, and protection to affected populations. It is usually coordinated by international organizations like the United Nations (UN), Red Cross, NGOs, and various governments working together to respond rapidly and effectively. Unlike development aid, which focuses on long-term improvement and capacity building, humanitarian assistance is primarily short-term and emergency-oriented, aiming to stabilize conditions and support recovery until normal systems can be restored.
